4 Ways To Enjoy Winter As A Mom

4 Ways To Enjoy Winter As A Mom

I love fall and spring as a mom. Those are the days to soak up the beauty of the outdoors and visit every park in the area! Today I thought it would be fun to share how I plan to enjoy winter. (Last summer I talked about how I wanted to make the most of motherhood here.) We may be nearly thru January, but I know too well when I head back to Ithaca on Wednesday that winter will be in full force for the next 2 months (and maybe longer)! I have been coming up with a game plan to embrace the season in doors with a toddler and make the most of my time. Here are 4 ways I plan to enjoy winter.

1. Unplug often. There is nothing worse than seeing everyone down south pulling out their sandals and sundresses when we are stuck in heavy coats and snow boots! To beat the winter blues, I plan on continuing my New Year’s resolution of staying off my phone more! So far I have stayed off of it a lot more than I expected being home the last 6 weeks and it has been totally refreshing. The more I stay off of it, the more I never want to get back on it! 🙂 If only this blogging job would allow that!

2. Invite friends over. Going thru winter can be isolating. There are days I really just want to hibernate and not move. Staying stationary on my couch really isn’t an option with a 2 year old and inviting friends over to play can do George and I both good. I am wracking my brain for creative play dates inside this season. Friends make the cold months warmer. I find it is the perfect time to plan a game night and cook a big pot of soup.

3. Set aside reading time. I used to be an avid reader but somewhere in between having a baby and juggling everything that comes with that I set my books go. That is changing! Before I came home for the holidays I started reading again at night before bed. It was like a breath of fresh air to get lost in a book for an hour or two. The winter months provide the down time needed to stop and enjoy a good book. I love reading books on motherhood and a good historical fiction.

4. Knock Out Those Projects. Nothing brings me as much happiness as checking off a to do list! The winter months provide the perfect time to knock projects out. Currently I have a few in mind. I plan on finishing my gallery wall in my bedroom and making a batch of elderberry syrup. I am also excited to pull out the bread machine that has been in my pantry and give it a try! Enjoy winter by getting things done indoors that you know you would not do if the weather was gorgeous outside!

So those are my 4 ways that I plan to set in place to enjoy winter. Of course I cannot wait for spring but I am really trying to enjoy the season God has me in right now and bloom where I am planted. If any of you cold weather girls have tips to help get your thru winter send them my way! Thanks for stopping by!

I totally feel you on the phone issue. I yearn to excape it often. Sounds like the perfect mix to keep things cozy and calm for the winter.

These are tips I can totally relate to, and I’m not a Mom! Unplugging at times is pretty critical to happiness I believe.
