Whew, I survived my first New York Fashion Week. It was a total blast. The days are long, really long. I am typically a morning person so the late nights and early mornings made it seems that much longer. Besides the running around to various appointments, the 5 days we girls were together was just what I needed. The laughs, the late night talks and even prayer times were like water to my soul. Being away from family and friends this past month has been difficult. It’s hard to just go out and make friends as a mom. That is actually something I am still trying to figure out. It will come I am sure.
We girls started talking about this trip in February. I have to be honest, I had no idea how much work was involved in planning a trip to fashion week. The emails, the appointments and brand meetings do not just fall in your lap. Sure, some PR companies send you invites but majority of the work is left up to you. I sat down 3 weeks in advance and emailed every show I was interested in attending and reached to various brands I had worked with through out the year. The shows were fun to watch, but I can honestly say that the meetings are the most important for any blogger. Next year, I will definitely spend more time connecting with brands in show rooms than trying to get into shows.
Honestly I would love to take a day next year and just people watch. The street style fashion that we saw was just incredible, in all the wrong ways!! Well not all but half of it was over the top ridiculous. We joked that we could have shown up in garbage bags with belts around our waist and been snapped like crazy for our creativity. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of put together looks that I loved seeing but the outrageous ones are etched in my mind. 🙂
Below is one of my looks from the week. I loved this Vici black drawstring jumpsuit for comfort. The silk scarf and tassel heels elevated the look.
