Blue Gingham Shirt Dress + Tips On Moving

This blue gingham shirt dress is helping me hold on to summer a bit longer, or I would like to think so! Every girl needs this fun picnic print in her closet. Now is the best time to score major deals on much of the gingham from the season. This dress is currently sold out but I love this pick just as much. Speaking of holding on to summer, over the weekend I heard someone remark that we only have 6 weeks left before it turns cold?! Like what??? I am hoping by cold they do NOT mean any type of snow. From what I hear I have till December to get ready for that experience. For now though, I am just going to stay outdoors as much as I possibly can the next few weeks. 🙂

Today I thought it would be fun to share a few tips that I have learned to make moving across the country a bit easier. Moving was something that I never did as a child. I was fortunate to move once and live the rest of my childhood in one place. It is definitely something I would love for George to have. Then again, sometimes life does not always turn out how we think. If you would have told me this time last year I would be across the country, I would have laughed. Moving was a huge job, especially going from a house and downsizing to half the size in an apartment. Here are some things I learned along the way.

1. Start Preparing Early – as soon as I found out that Chris had gotten accepted into Cornell, I immediately began searching the Internet for housing. I knew that would need to be the first thing we needed to lock up moving to a college town. We did not even fly to see the apartment, someone from the school was gracious enough to check it out for us. The first time I saw it was when we drove up! 🙂 I also started packing way in advance. Like at least 3 weeks in advance from our move out date. This insured that I wasn’t stressed out at the end.

2. Look At Various Moving Options – Originally we thought we would just use a pod to move. When we started calling around and getting pricing we found out that it was a lot cheaper to just rent a van and move ourselves. Now next time I move and pray that whoever Chris has a job with moves us. I seriously never want to drive a truck somewhere again! We did save a bunch though going that route. Penske ended up being a lot cheaper that U-haul and the diesel truck saved us from stopping to get gas as much.

3. Have a Go With The Flow Attitude – I think half the battle of moving is in the mind. It is a ton of work. I mentally just had to let go of trying to do everything perfectly and go with the flow. In the end I had a bunch of boxes with random stuff in them like a toilet bowl brush and left over china plates I had forgotten to pack. It all worked out though and not one thing was broken! Score! Having a positive attitude and not allowing myself to get stressed helped a ton. I have to say, the older I have gotten, I love that I just have let things go. Not worrying about things I cannot control has brought a lot more peace into my life! 🙂

I would love to hear how you cope with moving? I know some of you are probably pro movers out there!! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great Wednesday.

I think having a go with the flow attitude is one thing you have to have when moving. If not the stress just consumes you!
