Mixing Prints With Banana Republic

Mixing prints is one of my favorite ways to elevate a basic look into a fabulous one. l like to keep a few important elements in mind when combining prints. Finding prints that have similar colors helps bring the look together without it being to chaotic. It is also important to select one dominant print and keep the other print more of an accent print. For instance, you see how I paired this bold Banana Republic floral jacket with a classic blue striped blouse. The floral jacket is definitely my dominant print for this look. I also tend to pair my mixed prints with something neutral, in this case my denim shorts. It keeps the look anchored without going completely crazy.

My favorite print pairing option is stripes and florals. Stripes can be fun, but they can also be a bit stiff at times. They are so common in the professional world and at times look like they belong with suits and heels. There is no other way to bring life into stripes than by pairing it with floral. The floral print is fun, colorful and the perfect companion to stripes.

Another option that I gravitate towards in the summer is gingham with leopard. The blue gingham with leopard is my personal favorite. When the weather cools down, you can easily replace the gingham with plaid. The leopard print can be considered a neutral and adds a bit of texture to any look.

If you are unsure about where to begin, pick one pattern that you love and perhaps just add a simple scarf or a pair of shoes in a contrasting print. The beauty of print mixing is that you can create so many ‘new’ looks with what is already in your closet. You can say goodbye to boring outfits with mixing prints.
