Winter Fashion For Dummies: Essentials To Survive Cold Weather

Winter Fashion For Dummies: Essentials To Survive Cold Weather

It may only be December, but so far I am surviving in upstate New York.  When I first learned that we would be moving here, I immediately began to research on how to dress and what I would need.  Today, I thought it would be fun to write up a Winter Fashion For Dummies post! Ya’ll I had no clue what I would need when we moved from the south where it barely got into the 40s each year.  With the help of friends and the internet, I have purchased a few things that have made the cold tolerable. I am sure I will need to do a follow up post when we hit January and February! 🙂

If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times, layer, layer, layer.  That my friends, really is the key.  The one item that I do not leave the house without is a snug base layer.  This is the secret weapon to staying warm in my opinion.  I purchased 3 of these base layers from my friends at 32 degrees. They are $10 and are lifesavers.  Grab one!

Socks are another purchase that I made when I moved here and the temps began dropping. Now, the rule of thumb here is cotton kills. You do not want to wear cotton in the thick of winter because it hold moisture and that is not a fun way to go thru your day when it is icy and snowy. If your feet sweat then your sock will feel damp too and that is not fun either. Instead of cotton, look for merino wool. These Fit Socks have become my daily favorite when I am wearing boots. They are ultra thick and have a nice cushion feel to them. Your toes will thank you! 🙂

I have yet to make the big coat purchase, however, I snagged this light down jacket at the beginning of October and have been wearing it ever since. My husband remarked that it didn’t look warm at all, but boy was he wrong. This little jacket may be thin but it is WARM! On a 20 something degree morning, if I have a base layer, a sweat shirt and this jacket on, along with a scarf and hat, I AM GOOD! We walked a few days last week in cold weather and I was more than warm. Snag it now for half off!

Those few items right there have brought me to December, I will check back in during the new year and give you an update on additional items I add during the brutal winter months! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!
