Sleep training can be a process that most parents dread more than anything. I know for me, I rather just get up and get back to bed as soon as possible instead of listening to whining or crying. Regardless of how I feel, I know every baby has to learn to self soothe and put themselves back to sleep. Poppy has been a challenge at times to sleep train. As we approached the 6-month mark I knew that sleep training had to take a more structured approach and that I had to push through the hard nights with hopes of sleeping through the night in the near future. If that doesn’t motivate a tired parent I don’t know what will! 🙂

As I began to get my action plan together for sleep training, I began to research various baby monitors that would aid me along the way. I wanted something that could provide peace of mind as I encouraged Poppy to self soothe. The VTech Digital Video Monitor with Remote Access and 2 Cameras 5″- RM5764-2HD was just the monitor I was looking for. Watch your child in real-time on the 5” parent unit with 1080p full HD video quality on your iOS or Android device, by downloading the free MyVTech Baby 1080p app. When viewing on your iOS or Android device, experience crystal-clear, high-definition video. VTech RM5764-2HD monitor is the ONLY monitor that has a 1080p HD video allowing for crystal clear viewing of your little one.

One of the many features I love about this device is the 2-way talk and lullaby option on this monitor. In the night, at the beginning of my sleep training process, this feature certainly came in handy. I found sometimes all Poppy needed was to hear my voice saying it was OK and then I would turn on a lullaby. The lullaby would often put her back to sleep without me ever getting out of bed. Win!

As I reflect back on my sleep training process with Poppy a few things come to mind.

  1. Sleep training is a PROCESS, not a one-time deal. Patience is the key to effective sleep training. A lot of times, parents are the ones that really need to be prepared mentally for the process.
  2. . Establishing a bedtime routine is the key to your little one recognizing what time of day it is and that it is time to go to sleep. Typically, Poppy eats her dinner, gets a bath, and then her last bottle. After that routine, I lay her down with her pacifier and turn on the noisemaker. White noise is such a good sleep cue!
  3. Don’t rush into your baby’s room the first sound you hear. I use my VTech RM5764-2HD Baby Monitor to watch for a few minutes. A lot of times I noticed Poppy’s eyes were still closed and she was just fussing in her sleep.
  4. Before going into your child’s room, use the 2-way voice feature to reassure, and then turn on the lullaby. A lot of times I found Poppy just needed a little distraction like a lullaby to get her settled back down.
  5. Be aware of what times your little one is waking and try to push past those times a little each night. As soon as your baby figures out you are not going to run in the room at the first sound then they will start putting themselves back to sleep with little fuss. Poppy was notorious for waking up around 11:30 every night, but I quit going in there immediately and she has moved past that wake-up time each night.

After 3 – 4 nights of sleep training, Poppy has gotten a lot better at putting herself back to sleep with little intervention from me. Consistency will be key to getting your baby to sleep through the night and the VTech RM5764-2HD Smart Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor will be your best friend in providing you the peace of mind you need for this big milestone. This year I am so excited to let you know that the VTech RM5764-2HD Smart Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor will be 50% off for Black Friday. This is a huge saving for you as a parent and I know will be just the tool you need in your arsenal to get your first night of solid sleep!
