Today I rounded up 6 basic maternity pieces you should have in your closet if you are an expectant mother!  The best part is that most of these items are non-maternity.  I love that fact alone because I will be able to wear them post-pregnancy.  For both of my pregnancies, I have fiercely resisted buying a ton of maternity items.  Spanx maternity leggings are the only maternity piece I have bought this time around.  And I can 100% say I have gotten my money’s worth from them.  They sit up high across your belly and are so comfortable!  I was a little unsure of the sizing so I sized up from my normal XS to a Small and it was perfect.  If you are expecting a little one I highly recommend purchasing high-quality black maternity leggings.  They will be the cornerstone of your closet for 9 months!

From the items I have rounded up below, leggings make a great staple to pair with a tunic top or a long vest.  Those are my next 2 must-have items.  I love styling a long vest over dresses, leggings, and shorts.  The length of the vest keeps you looking tall and not too round! 🙂  I threw a cargo vest on Saturday with this knit skirt I styled a few weeks ago and loved how the outfit looked.  (This skirt is another fabulous item to have in your arsenal!)  A tunic top is another piece that is similar in length to the long vest.  It hides your tummy well at the beginning of a pregnancy and is long enough to cover it when your belly starts showing out!  It can be paired with leggings, under vests or with the drawstring chambray pant.

A black sweater is another one of my basic maternity pieces every woman should own.  You can easily dress up a pair of jeans with it or wear it with sweats around the house.  The dark color is a great way to camouflage your bump and elevate a basic look into a chic one.  Throw on red lipstick and you are good to go! 🙂

Sweater/t-shirt dresses are another great basic maternity piece to own.  They are comfortable and practical for church and date nights. Finally, drawstring chambray pants will become your best friend when your jeans do not fit anymore!  Free People has a great option that I linked below Is there anything better than a drawstring waist? No, I think not.  These pants are a good alternative when you have worn leggings every day and need a break from them.

I would love to hear what are your go-to items when you are pregnant.  These are my favorite basic maternity pieces that have gotten me to the 8-month mark today!
