Toddler Pre-Fall Outdoor Activities

toddler pre-fall outdoor activities

Happy Wednesday ya’ll.  It has been a while since I posted.  I have out trip home to thank for that!  Between running around visiting family, heading to the beach and cranking out sponsored assignments, I decided to take a little break while I was in the south.  It was much needed and now I am feeling refreshed for the new school year and season ahead.  Speaking of season,  today I thought it would be fun to round up a few toddler pre-fall outdoor activities to keep you and your little one busy.  This year as I feel fall approaching rather quickly, I find myself wanting to spend every possible second outside.  I know just how fast the fall season quickly moves into winter and snow.  🙁

With Chris starting back school tomorrow, I am finding myself wanting to get into a routine with George.  This includes doing a little preschool work a few mornings a week and incorporating outdoor activities into our day.  Here are a few toddler pre-fall outdoor activities we have marked on our calendar.

    1. Pick summer’s final fruits and veggies.  These pictures are from a few weeks back when we headed to Indian Creek Farms to pick raspberries.  It was such a fun morning and George actually got into it more than I thought.  I can think of no better way of teaching him a little about work than picking our own food.Picking apples is something I am definitely excited about this year!
    2. Nature Scavanger hunts – we went on a walk Monday morning and all George wanted to do as we stopped was find acorns, or in his words haycorns.  🙂 This got me to thinking that we would make this a part of our week.  Each week we will pick one item to look for on our walks and talk about it during the weeks.  This can be leaves, acorns, pine cones, specific flowers.  It is a good opportunity to learn about nature while getting wiggles out!
    3. Color Walks–  this kind of goes hand in hand with scavenger hunts but it is a fun way for the toddler in your life to learn their colors.  George has gotten pretty good at naming his colors and we sit at the table and ask each other questions about what items are what color.  Taking this game outside and challenging him to go find a certain color while we are on a walk will bring a whole new element to this game. 🙂
    4. Leaf Chromatography Science experiment –  this activity might be a little advanced for G but it sounds like such a fun activity.  You little one can learn about the colors of leaves in this experiment.  As the leaves begin to change colors over the next month it is a perfect time to do this hands on project.  Check this article for an easy step by step guide!

I hope these ideas jump start you into making the most of the remaining weeks of summer. These toddler pre-fall outdoor activities are sure to keep your little one busy and productive!
