5 Adult Indoor Hobbies For Winter

There is nothing quite like the winter blues. Last year was my first experience in a legit winter. I can honestly say, I was NOT expecting to be so down and out. This year as I prepare to head back to New York next week I am sharing 5 adult indoor winter hobbies that I plan on keeping me busy as I wait for spring.

  1. Paint . Nope, I am not even talking about that random room you have wanted to paint. I am talking about actually taking up painting a canvas as a hobby. A while back I was in Barnes and Nobles and saw a 4 piece canvas kit that incorporated the 4 seasons. This kit used the number system to match the paint to the canvas. I couldn’t get this kit out of my mind and went back a few days later to purchase it. I have started on one and look forward to completing it when I return home. There is something peaceful about letting your creative side out during the months you are stuck indoors. Check out this great site here for more ideas!

2. Podcast. Lately I cannot get enough of podcasts. Whether it has to do with parenting, running a business or keeping your marriage strong, podcasts have become my go to as I sit at my computer or after George is in bed for the night. The best part of listening to a podcast is that you can often multi task and get the laundry done while you listen. I find during the summer months we are outdoors and on the go so much that I often do not pause to listen. The winter months offer a quiet retreat from running the roads.

3. Plan a vacation. Well this might not be a hobby, BUT nothing cures the winter blues like finding a great deal on a tropical escape. During the winter months companies offer deep discounts on resort packages. Even if your escape from winter is only a few days, warm sun shine and sandy feet can do a world of good.

4. Find ways to serve someone. This might not be the most fun at first thought, but serving and helping out a friend or person in needs goes a long way to boosting moods. Find a soup kitchen, pregnancy center or another charity to lend a hand. A lot of times we learn something from those we serve. If anything, you will come away with a grateful heart.

5. Write down a book list. During the summer months I find that I do not read nearly as often as the winter months. Each winter I organize a list of books I would like to get through. Having a goal and list keeps me turning those pages!

Those are my 5 favorite adult indoor hobbies for winter. What are your favorite ways to spend the winter months?
