A Day At The MacKenzie-Childs Farmhouse

MacKenzie-Childs Farmhouse Tour

We spent Memorial Day last week touring the MacKenzie-Childs farmhouse and shops. Little did I know that this gorgeous place was just a short 40 minute drive from Ithaca. Overlooking Cayuga Lake, the property and grounds alone are worth the drive to Aurora NY. The gorgeous ponds, gardens, barns and gift shop will keep you busy for over an hour! The MacKenzie-Childs farmhouse tour is a must. This 45 minute tour gives you all the details on how the brand began and a visual representation of all their gorgeous products through the years. It is simply a dream to walk through 3 floors of the farmhouse that was built in the late 1800’s and view the stunning furniture, bathrooms (hello pink tub!) and pottery.

I was first introduced to the MacKenzie-Childs brand as a young girl. When my dad returned from one of his New York buying trips he brought with him a soap dish for me and my sisters. We still have them to this day. The gorgeous colors and expert craftsmanship make these items treasures for years to come. They also make the perfect items to pass down to future generations. From ceramics, to furniture to enamelware there is certain to be the perfect gift for your friends and loved ones. In a world where everything seems to be massed produced I love the individuality of the ceramics. Each of them are hand-painted and thus makes no two alike. Because the ceramics are hand painted by different artists, the brush strokes are slightly different as are the paints. What you come away with is truly a unique, one of a kind piece.

If you live in the upstate area and want to get your hand on these gorgeous pieces for 50-80% off mark your calendar’s for the send weekend of July (July 12–15, 8 am–6 pm) when they have their barn sale. While I toured, I heard stories of enthusiastic customers waiting and camping out for days to get a good spot in line for when the sale began. Last year the sale along brought in 22000 people from all over the country. I am not sure I will participate as George would probably not last more than 2 hours, but it does sound fun! 🙂 I hope you all have a great week! Thanks for stopping by!
