Navy and Grey Living Room Inspiration

Hey friends! It’s been a while. Summer has a way of creeping in and disrupting all my plans and schedule. I’m not complaining because taking a break from the school routine is nice! Today I am sharing what made me choose our grey and navy living room color scheme for our furniture and why I love it so much.

Getting your living room design right is of utmost importance if you want to be able to enjoy and relax in this much-used space. I combed Pinterest for living room ideas and looked at everything from contemporary living room designs to traditional ones as well. Our home is more of a coastal theme since we live in Florida. I am looking to bring in textures with the rugs, fabrics, and art. Today I am chatting about this grey and navy living color scheme, where I bought the products, and of your practical advice on putting your living room together!

I would love to hear below how you chose the colors for your living space.  I think for some people personal favorite colors play a role in your choice or perhaps trendy design options help you decide.  Regardless, every living room space should make you feel at home and happy so you do you!  This navy and grey combo has my heart so I went for it!

Why Grey and Navy?

I have always been a sucker for white couches, white chairs, white walls, and cabinets, but in picking out things for our new home found myself gravitating towards navy. My navy obsession goes all the way back when we lived in NY and were about to move to FL. I told my husband I was ordering a navy blue velvet couch. While that didn’t happen, I never gave up on buying navy upholstered furniture for my living room.

Navy is less harsh than black but still a dark color that really pops with off-white walls. It is perfect for little kiddos that may not always remember to wash their hands too! Since we have these little kiddos, finding a color to go with navy was easy, and it definitely wasn’t white! Light Grey seemed like the perfect color to pair with it. With a grey and navy living room furniture combination, I can breathe knowing that I won’t have to wash slipcovers all the time with all the fingerprints and spilled juice that may get on them!

The beauty of the interior design is that your can pick and choose items that make YOU happy. The best way to learn what you like is to look at magazines, websites, visit home stores, create Pinterest boards and play around with various accessories and looks.

Ways To Incorporate Navy and Grey Into Your Home

So there are a few ways to incorporate this color scheme into your home. Paint colors are one way. Personally, I have grown to love a dark room color like navy blue. In our home, we are starting with all off-white walls, but I have told Chris if we ever convert a room into a study I would love to go dark! Dark-colored walls make a room so elegant, refined, and cozy to me. Nacy blue walls are a beautiful way to bring a dark colour into your home without it being overly harsh.

Accessories are another way to incorporate a navy and grey color scheme. Think throw pillow, blankets, ottomans, trays, wall art, mirrors, rugs, and so many other ways. Accessories are great to start out with if you are unsure of committing to this scheme. It is a good way to test it out without fully committing!

Furniture. This incorporation is the most expensive of them all so be sure you are fully on board! 🙂 This is the way we have chosen to incorporate navy and grey into our home.

What We Chose For Our Transitional Living Room

Here is how it turned out a few months later! I LOVE it!

Our living room is a transitional space. Our kitchen opens up into the living room. Since we chose a navy blue island I wanted to carry that color over into our living room. Blue living spaces just feel right living close to the ocean! 🙂 Navy is a great color to bring into a large or small living room because of the big impact it can make.

We chose the grey slipcovered deep seat York Sofa from Pottery Barn and 2 of their Hart Upholstered Armchairs in a navy basketweave fabric.

To add a punch of color, I went to Ballards and chose 2 ottomans with lime green incorporated with navy. It will be the perfect blend of neutral colors with a colorful pattern. I love adding a pop of pattern into a color scheme. Pillows, rugs, throws, and ottomans are great pieces to experiment with colors.

Another accent color I am incorporating is gold. I am keeping my Pottery Barn Glass gold coffee table and adding a couple of the gold cocktail tables to each side of the chair. Gold is a beautiful way to add a touch of elegance to living rooms.

The elegant tones of these two colors can soothe and complement many styles.  From modern furniture selections to more traditional picks, navy and grey together will never be out of style.  If you prefer a more rustic approach to decor, this color scheme looks beautiful with wood accents and as mentioned above, it can look equally as good with luxe touches of gold or silver.  You really cannot go wrong with these 2 colors!  Thanks so much for taking the time to read, I can’t wait to update this post with our living room pics when we are finally in our new house.
