Poppy At 6 Months + Life Update

Happy Monday friends! I thought I would share a little life update and Poppy’s 6-month-old pics. ( See George’s 6 months here!)  I cannot believe my baby is already half a year.  What a year 2020 has been.  I’m sure many of you can echo those sentiments.  What started off as a year full of promise and excitement for a brand new decade quickly turned into a nightmare for most people.  Without a doubt, Poppy has been the best part of 2020.  With her arrival right as the economy shut down, she brought so much happiness to our lives in such an uncertain time.

At 6 months old, Poppy loves sitting up by herself.  She will sit on her playmat for an hour sometimes just figuring all her toys out.  She also loves to sit in her bumbo seat in the kitchen while I clean up or cook.  I had forgotten what sweet memories are made in the kitchen with a baby!  Her bright smiles and baby talk is the highlight of every day even though she has yet to sleep through the night, ugh!  I cannot remember at what age George started sleeping through the night, but I’m almost certain it was around 6 months so I’m hoping she picks up that skill soon! 🙂  Poppy also LOVES her food.  George was never as intrigued with food as she has been.  She will stare me down if I’m eating something and loves to try almost anytime new.  Right now fruit are her fave but I sneak some veggies in mixed with her fruit purees.  🙂  While we have no teeth yet, I’m hoping by 7 months they come through.  I’m thinking that is going to make a big difference in her nighttime sleep.

I’m so thankful I have had this precious life to take care of the last 6 months.  She has been such a welcomed distraction amid so many life changes.  I’m pretty sure I mentioned on here before that Chris was furloughed with his job at Toll Brothers.  The furlough ended up being 120 days in length.  Let me tell you, that is a LONG time!  So many days we were OK and pushed through but we definitely had days where we have just felt paralyzed.  At the end of 120 days, he was laid off.  We kinda figured this was going to happen so we were not too surprised.  Thankfully my husband never wasted a moment as far as looking for work went.  From the start of the furlough, he was constantly looking and interviewing for jobs.   We were looking at jobs from Washinton state to D.C.  Seriously, we were willing to go anywhere.  Just when he was about to receive an offer with Toll in Virginia, the office here in Jacksonville called and asked him if he would like to stay here and come back in with a different role.  YES, PLEASE!  We are so thankful to stay here in Florida.  Chris is extremely excited about this new job.  I love how God always works things out better than we could have hoped for.  I’m so thankful the past 5 months are behind us.  I have to say, we both learned a lot through this entire process and I know we are not the only ones affected by this pandemic.

I find I am so much more grateful for family and I am super thankful for the time we had together in spite of the circumstances.  Speaking of family, my 83-year-old father – in – law just moved in with us.  Now that is a life change too! 🙂 So far so good and I’m thankful we are able to help him out in his later years of life.  George especially loves having his Grampy around and I think there is something special for a child to grow up with a grandparent close by!

Whew, 2020, you have been a test!  I’m definitely looking forward to seeing you in the rearview mirror!  Thanks for following along with my rambling life update!
