Styling Dresses For Fall

Happy October everyone! It is the one month that has gotten sweeter over the years.  In 3 weeks, George will celebrate is 3rd birthday.  I honestly cannot believe how fast time has flown and might have teared up this morning as I held him on my lap.  Time, please slow down!  With the arrival of October it feels like fall is officially here!  The leaves are just starting to turn gorgeous hues here and the weather has been nice and crisp.

The time is coming really soon for me to unpack all my sweaters and vests and gear up for this new season.  For now though, I am savoring wearing all the dresses while I can.  Today I thought it would be fun to share a few ideas for styling dresses for fall.  I actually love dresses more this time of year because of the layering options.  The various layers just create a really chic look.

Obviously jackets thrown over your shoulders or worn is a timeless look that will not ever go out.  This suede bomber jacket introduces texture and structure to this prairie style dress.  The silk scarf helps tie in look with similar colors.  A silk scarf just might be my favorite piece to use during the fall months.  The delicate fabric is a good contrast to all the chunky knits we get bombarded with.

Sweater vests are a definite must in styling dresses for fall.   For all my friends in the south, this is a great option for you!  They add a layer to your dress without being suffocating.  I love to keep an ivory and navy one in my closet to throw on during the warmer days.  On cooler days, pair your cotton dress with a chunky knit cardigan for a cozy look.  I do not think anyone can ever have enough cardigans! My favorite one last year was a mustard color.  Love!

The best part of wearing dresses for fall is that you can still get away with wearing any shoe you want! No boots needed yet if you are like me and desperately trying to hold off a few weeks.  Booties, flats, driving moccasins, sneakers and mules are just a few options to get you started.  Before you pack up those summer dresses, take look and see which ones could be styled for fall.  You just might be surprised at the various combos you come up with!
