Recharge Your Motherhood

Happy Monday ya’ll! Have you moms ever felt like you just needed to recharge your motherhood. Maybe potty training has you on your toes (hello!), someone is hungry for the hundreth time in one morning, or a crying baby has you frazzled. We as moms have all been there at some point. As beautiful as motherhood is, it is exhausting. After moving away from everyone and everything I had ever known last year, I really had to face the lonliness that motherhood get ineveitable bring. The days can be long and drawn out at times. Today, I thought I would list a few of the ways you can recharge your motherhood. These have been instrumental in helping me push through this past year in a new place.

Find your tribe. It seems rather easy, but after moving to a place where you literally do not know anyone it can be a challenge. For me finding my MOPS group here in Ithaca was a game changer. Twice a month we met, enjoyed breakfast, listened to speakers or made a craft. The basis of MOPS is to get moms of preschoolers together to encourage each other. Life seems a little more manageable the moment you realize you are not doing it alone. It was wonderful to get to connect with these fabulous moms, recount similar stories of raising our kiddos and encourage each other to keep pressing on. If you have moved to a new area as a mom look into finding a MOPS in your area.

Surround yourself with encouraging mom pod casts. Recently I downloaded the Family Life app that has hundreds of talks ranging from marriage to parenthood. I began to listen to the motherhood pod casts and have been so encouraged. It is really vital to keep the end goal in mind. When I listen to older moms that are a few stages ahead of me in my motherhood journey, I am reminded about why I am doing what I am doing. Last weekend on our road trip to see friends at West Point, I intentionally downloaded pod casts before I left. Instead of filling the 3 hour drive with music or talk radio and listened to a 3 part series of letting go of guilt in motherhood. I even was able to recount some of the things I learned to my friend that weekend as we were chasing our toddler boys around. What we feed our minds with during these days are crucial to recharging our motherhood.

Relish the small moments. In the last week, George has started telling me ‘I love your mom’ when I close his door at night. He has said love you for a while if I asked him to say it, but this is the first time that he says it back on his own. My heart melted the first time I heard him. Reflecting on moments like this at the end of a long day goes such a long way in keeping me getting up each day with a positive attitude. God only gave us a short time with our babies so let’s make the most of the time we have and stay charged up for our journey. How do you stay motivated and encouraged in your motherhood journey?
